HISTORY

It's an Honor and Pleasure to Serve our Community

The beautiful mix of forests, farmland and coastline that surround New Haven are a constant reminder of the sanctity of the environment and our relationship to it. This feeling extends from our staff, practices and products to you. The past 10 years Hulls has increasingly focused attention on supporting companies with aggressive green initiatives and offering products that are safer for artists and their families --use less lead, for instance, or moving away from oil-based to water-soluble materials.

Many artists want to be good stewards of the environment through the purchases they make, but we also recognize artists are often particular about the materials they use to create just the right effect for their art. We don't expect everyone to compromise on that--but hope to educate and encourage environmentally sound practices, where one might dispose of their materials and provide a list of more sustainable choices. Small steps and thoughtful daily practices make a yearly difference!

We recycle as much as possible here at Hull's, many different things: Electronic equipment, paper, printer cartridges, along with paints and materials from our framing workshop--you name it!

We've installed efficient lighting fixtures throughout our store and set our thermostats so that we use less energy. We'll also be adding a green H to our green products to make them easy to identify throughout the store and our website. These products are made with sustainable materials, the companies have aggressive environmental policies or use renewable energy. If there are certain eco-friendly art supplies you use and would like Hull's to carry, we'd love to hear about them. Please drop us a line at info@hullsnewhaven.com.

In the interim, we believe the most important thing we can do is to educate. Below you'll find key links to help you with disposal and to discover more sustainable and less toxic alternatives for you and your family.

"We have begun. We are underway. We have a passion. We want to make a difference."

Waste disposal requirements differ from one county or municipality to another. But artists can find out which agencies are in charge and what their rules are.

ENVIORNMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

"The quality of water and the quality of life in all its infinite forms are critical parts of the overall, ongoing health of this planet. The hardest part of any big project is to begin. We have begun. We are underway. We have a passion. We want to make a difference."

SIR PETER BLAKE (1948-2001)

DIVERSITY

Hull's is committed to attracting, developing and retaining highly skilled people without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, disability, personal background, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or education. We honor diversity in the community we serve as well as with our strategic partners and vendors. If you’re passionate about helping others, making people happy, love of the arts and knowledge of art supplies, we’d like to meet!

Thank you so much for all your help with the framing and shipping of my painting. It arrived in Pennsylvania safe and sound yesterday afternoon. The frame looks great and I'm very happy with the painting. I look forward to working with you again in the near future.
