Saunders Waterford® is a professional-quality watercolor paper traditionally made by St Cuthberts Mill in England. Crafted from 100% cotton on a cylinder mould machine, it combines exceptional strength, stability, and archival permanence with the distinctive character of a traditionally made fine art paper.

The Rough surface features a pronounced, naturally irregular texture created using natural woolen felts. Its substantial tooth encourages beautiful pigment granulation, broken brush effects, and expressive washes, making it especially well suited to artists who want the texture of the paper to become an active part of their work.

The High White shade provides a brighter, crisper foundation than traditional natural white paper. This clean surface enhances color brilliance and contrast, helping transparent washes, delicate passages, and vibrant pigments appear especially luminous.

At 300gsm (140lb), the paper has substantial body and is internally and externally sized for excellent surface strength and controlled absorbency. It stands up beautifully to repeated washes and demanding techniques such as lifting, scrubbing, and scraping while maintaining its integrity.

Manufactured to high archival standards, Saunders Waterford is acid-free and buffered with calcium carbonate to help protect finished artwork against discoloration caused by acids and atmospheric pollutants.
